Even the mightiest Weekend Warrior needs to recharge from time to time. Take a break this weekend and restore your energy.

1. Throw out your “to-do” list for the weekend

Not everything in life is urgent. Find a weekend where you can safely put down your list of tasks. Studies have shown that for some people, to-do lists can create extra stress. Instead of focusing on what you need to get done, take some time to be proud of what you’ve already accomplished. Reflect on the things you’re grateful for, and maybe even start your own gratitude journal.

2. Try yoga, or yoga breathing

You don’t have to be a master at yoga to experience the physical and mental restorative energy it provides. Try some simple, relaxing yoga poses or yoga breathing in a calm, quiet, distraction-free area. You’ll feel the stress of the week melt away.

3. Take a walk in nature…without a smart phone

Find a place where you can enjoy the beauty and serenity of nature. Maybe there’s a creek near your home, a forest nearby, or another landscape you’d enjoy exploring. Take the time to really examine your surroundings, and appreciate the things we take for granted during the busy workweek. Doing this without your smartphone will enable you to have a fully immersive experience.

4. Read a book…a good one

Read something you really enjoy. Maybe it’s a bestseller you’ve had on your list, or the latest popular thriller. To have a truly restorative weekend, stay away from work-related books, or any other reading material that might give you anxiety or stress (sometimes this even means self help books). Here are some signs you should put down the book you’re reading and find a new one.

5. Work on a beloved hobby

Has it been ages since you’ve picked up a paintbrush, done some woodworking, or played an instrument? We all have that one hobby that takes a back seat to the daily task list. Not this weekend! Do that thing that makes your soul happy.
